Children learn to feel for others from the people around them, and they begin to learn this very early, primarily in the first five years.  For this reason, parents have the most critical role in fostering this uniquely human quality that we call empathy, the ability to feel what others feel.  From empathy comes kindness, caring, respect, tolerance and all those personality traits that children need in order to grow into adults who are good parents and good citizens.  This class not only gives parents an understanding of why empathy is important, but it provides practical ideas, suggestions, activities and behaviors that parents can use to promote empathy in their children
