Casa de los Niños along with area hospitals is a Safe Baby site. This allows someone to bring in a newborn child, born in the last 72 hours, and not be prosecuted for child abandonment. This is a safe alternative for women who might otherwise harm or discard a child that may be unwanted.
The law does not require that the mother bring in the child. It could be a friend or family member. The mother may be asked a few questions about the medical history of the child, but is not required to give information and can remain anonymous.
