Jeremy
Jeremy was eighteen months old when his parents voluntarily placed him at Casa de los Niños. They were both out of work and had recently become homeless because they were unable to pay rent. They wanted a safe place for Jeremy to stay until they could rebuild their lives, find stable employment, and a place to live.
While Jeremy’s parents worked to improve their situation, they came to visit him every day. A Casa de los Niños Case Manager worked with the family to identify goals and designed an action plan that would hasten their reunion with their son. Both parents were having a difficult time finding employment in part due to their criminal histories prior to becoming parents. After many weeks of job searching, they became increasingly discouraged. Visits with Jeremy became more infrequent. The situation became so overwhelming to them they didn’t know what to do.
Despite these roadblocks, the active and engaging Case Manager continued to encourage Jeremy’s parents to visit him frequently during this difficult time because this is when he needed them most. The Case Manager provided resources and referrals, including vouchers to purchase much needed items from the Casa de los Niños Thrift Store.
After receiving continued encouragement from the Case Manager, Jeremy’s parents resumed their daily visits. Shortly after, both parents found employment and a place to live. After a trying and emotional few months, Jeremy was finally able to go home to his family.
