Eliza
When Eliza came to our home she was blind, she’d sustained severe brain injuries, and the left side of her body was paralyzed. As foster parents, Casa de los Niños asked us to take on the difficult task of caring for her.
Shaken Baby Syndrome had left Eliza weak and frightened. We knew her rehabilitation was going to be long and intensive and require an immense amount of support and love. Over many months we have seen tremendous improvement; she’s gaining strength on her left side and starting to regain sight in her eyes.
During Eliza’s stay with us, her parents were charged with child abuse and she was permanently removed from their custody. Her caseworker found her a good home and she is going to live with her adoptive family next week. She’ll continue to receive intensive treatment. I know it will be a long and difficult road for her new family, but with the support she’s received from us and from Casa de los Niños, Eliza now has a solid foundation for a happy, healthy life.
