As we move into the new year, I am reminded how proud I am to be part of my community. Nowhere can the “holiday spirit” be seen more clearly than in and around Tucson. It is hugely uplifting to know that so many of you have room in your hearts for the kids at Casa de los Niños. I want you to know two things:

     1.  We are extraordinarily grateful for your help.

     2.  The gifts we received during December are important to the children and families we serve — during the holidays and throughout the year to come.

 The gifts you brought to our door were distributed to all the kids in our program. This includes those living in our shelter, those in our foster care program and those who are touched by our home visitation programs. Many of our families are at risk. When we could help them during the holidays, we did!

 You should also know that your holiday donations – whether they were tangible “gifts” or financial donations to Casa de los Niños – will help us throughout the coming year. Clothing items will be used to dress newcomers to the shelter all year long. Toys will be given to children on their birthdays. Financial donations will help us pay the bills during those months (like July!) when our cash flow is tight.

 In short, your gifts will keep on giving throughout the coming year … not just December. Our donors make a difference, a huge difference, in the lives of Tucson’s children.

 So on their behalf I say “Thank you!” And ”Happy New Year!”
